Conference challenges students' thinking

Published: Monday, 24 May 2010

Recently we hosted a Gifted and Talented conference for students in Years 9,10, 11 and 12. So often Gifted and Talented programs focus on younger children but it is pleasing to see that our program is focussing on all age groups. The students held facilitated discussions on a variety of topics including Climate change. Students from a number of local and rural schools attended the conference. I see it as an important development in our School culture that students are encouraged to engage in higher level intellectual conversations more often and that they are willing to challenge the thinking behind various theories. The day was a great success as was indicated by the positive response of students on the feedback sheets. We will host similar days in the future.
