Dads at Mentone (DAM)

DAM is a group of Dads interested in meeting other Dads at Mentone Grammar, and provides them with a way to be more involved in their child's School.

DAM gives Dads an opportunity to get together, just as Dads, with fun and friendship as their driving force, at various social events throughout the year.

Get Involved

All MG Dads are very welcome to join DAM.

Please email the President, Mark Pearman if you would like to get involved or for further information.

Upcoming Events

The DAM will host their own table(s) at the P&F Trivia night in term 2, and in term 3 a bus will be organised, and responsible drinking upholded as the dads head off to a local micro brewery to sample some of the local and internationally made beers.

Later on in term 3 a few DAM teams will be pulled together to take on some of the dad's from the other local schools in a Ten Pin Bowling Tournament.

Term 4 will see our DAM group hosting a family friendly Drive Inn on the Frogmore oval, providing traditional movie fare to munch through prior to the movie and at interval.

Past Events

So far this year the DAM group of dads have had a great time, either doing things with their children, or taking the opportunity to get together as dads. The Camp Out was a huge success out at the school's Keysborough playing fields, where 140 dads and kids pitched a tent. Impromptu games of footie, rugby, cricket and tennis popped up all over the fields, while dads either joined in the fun, or took the opportunity to sit back and chat with those in the tent next door. This year there was  a spit roast barbeque and desserts served for dinner, followed by hot chocolate while the kids watched a movie in the club rooms. At 7am all awoke to the smell of cooking bacon and eggs!

Term 2 has seen a very exciting Go-Kart event. On a cold rainy evening, fourteen Mentone Grammar fathers lined up on the grid at Go-Kart Sports in Moorabbin.  We saw many new Dads and a few of the usual suspects. A small amount of water on the track guaranteed an interesting evening. The 10 lap qualifying was hotly contested with Russell Cato coming in a clear pole position winner. When the race was about to start the organisers extended it to 25 laps, some greeted this with cheer Alan Fagan did not. When the race started Russell Cato was never headed and came in a clear winner, with David Steere second and Buff Moody third. Congratulations to all who attended especially Peter Dixon who gave it a red-hot go.

Lastly around 40 dad's took to the fairway in support of the P&F Annual Golf Day.
