Senior School – Frogmore (Years 9 to 12)
Mr Trevor Stevens, Head of Frogmore
Our senior school, ‘Frogmore’, is named after the signature Edwardian homestead in the Senior Years precinct, the site of the Principal's Administration.
Year 9 provides the perfect entry point for boys and girls into Senior Years education. The experiential learning program, ‘9 to the power of 4’ and the modularised term-based Year 9 curriculum program, and its associated Mentone based classroom programs provide students with a year-long preparatory program for their final years at school.
As these students begin to develop their adult identity at home and beyond, the school takes the opportunity to facilitate each student’s process of self discovery. Organisational skills and a greater sense of community awareness and participation are actively encouraged. Directed studies are designed to provide foundational experiences that prepare each student for the rigours of the final years of secondary education.
At Mentone Grammar, the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) program begins in Year 10. Students have the opportunity to commence VCE studies in a range of subjects.
Timetabling structures provide students with abilities in particular subjects the opportunity to pursue these studies ahead of time. Enabling students to access VCE subjects for three years allows them to have a greater range of subjects in their final certification and will provide access to an increased offering of VCE and VET subjects within the school as well. With the addition of the new apprenticeship program, students have even more career pathway options available.
The provision of state-of-the-art specialist facilities, including our world-class Science and Environmental Studies Centre, the refurbished senior library with extended opening hours (8am-7pm Mon-Thurs), and extensive IT facilities continues to provide access to magnificent educational opportunities for our young men and women in their senior years.
Expertise in particular subject areas is the hallmark of the classroom experience in this sector of the school. Students have access to staff active in research and development within their subject associations at a State and National level. The provision of study support beyond the classroom ensures that the senior years precinct, with its ‘borderless’ classroom setting, is a thriving community of learners at all hours of the day and night.
In combining their academic pursuits with community, cultural and sporting endeavours, our students continue to engage with the world at large. We seek to prepare students to be leaders and strong contributors to society for decades to come.
