National Year of Reading launch with George Ivanoff

Published: Tuesday, 21 February 2012

The senior library was a little different at lunch time today - with a brass band, food and drinks to share, balloons and ribbons - and lots of VIPs including local school librarians together with students, parents and teachers - as we launched our very own National Year of Reading program.

Special guest was local author, and Old Mentonian, George Ivanoff, author of the Gamer's Quest series aimed at 11-13 year olds, along with many other titles. George is pictured here with several of our keen readers. He officially launched the MG National Year of Reading with the help of Principal Mal Cater.

As part of the event, Mentone Grammar launched its 'Mentone Grammar Reading Ambassadors' (MGRA) program, which is an opportunity for anyone to get involved in reading at the School. Around 50 parents, grandparents, teachers and students have signed up already (more are signing up every day) to get into reading!  The MGRA's will be involved in all kinds of activities throughout the year, for example reading groups, book clubs and reading to young students. It's fabulous to see so many people who love reading!
