Dare2Dream!

Our Enrichment Team help to ensure Mentone Grammar students are challenged beyond the classroom and are inspired to take their learning further.

Highly able students in ELC and Foundation, who meet the program criteria, are provided with an Individual Learning Plan.

This Enrichment Plan is designed to stimulate the child’s curiosity and wonder, connecting them with real-world problems through a range of hands-on activities and experimentation. Gifted students in Years 1 – 9 are presented with a range of academic challenges through our Dare2Dream! program.

In addition to weekly classes, Dare2Dream! focuses heavily on developing real-life skills in relevant contexts they will use throughout their lives.

These offerings are designed to develop creativity, critical thinking and complex problem-solving. Abilities are largely developed collaboratively and are highlighted with a focus on science, mathematics, technology, literacy, public speaking and philosophical thinking.

Support through Mentoring

Highly able students in Years 1 – 11 have the opportunity to participate in inquiry-based competition projects with the guidance of Mentors, which includes specialist mentoring for Senior students in Years 10 & 11.

Mentoring sessions are aimed at encouraging students to become autonomous learners, fostering high levels of critical thinking and creativity. The sessions follow a process model to help them approach investigative research, from exploring the initial idea, to asking the right questions, and completing a project to the best of their ability.

Advanced Learning for Year 12 Students

In Year 12, students achieving in the top percentage of their cohort are given additional Mentoring to focus on goal setting, progress checking, troubleshooting issues, building social and emotional strength and resilience, reviewing student data or working on skill development. These sessions are run one to two days a week and are designed so that our students work with their Mentor to set goals, create an action plan, and review their progress every week. Since its development, this program has seen great success, with two perfect ATAR scores.

Dare2Dream! Competitions and Challenges

Competitions and challenges are run for highly able students from Years 1 – 11 and are designed to encourage them to take risks in areas that are not necessarily their strengths and to build confidence within their passions. These competitions are challenging, yet emotionally and academically rewarding. In addition, if a student shows interest in a topic, project or competition, our Enrichment Team will work hard to integrate it into their learning.

Please note, that the following competitions and challenges are run on an interest and needs basis, and may be subject to change.
