Sport

Summer and winter sports have always played an important role in the life of the School. Mentone Grammar has a long history of sporting greatness and being bayside, our School has an unrivalled record of success in water sports.

Sport and physical activity are embedded in the Mentone Grammar culture, so students develop an appreciation of their health and bodies in the Early Years while also reinforcing the values of teamwork, cooperation, accountability, being active and having fun. Students also develop fundamental movement and motor skills that are transferable across sports and other life activities.

Our sequential sports program provides opportunities for students of all abilities from Years 3 – 12 to benefit from our elite coaching programs, established through partnerships with highly credentialled coaches, talent pathway programs and professional sporting clubs.

Expert Coaches

Our expert coaches oversee midweek training and Saturday matches, with additional training offered across a variety of sports and levels throughout each week. Pre-season and in-season training is often completed concurrently, resulting in a wide range of sporting opportunities available all year round.

Junior Sport

Students in Years 3 – 6 compete in the School Sport Victoria competition, through participation in Cheltenham District events, as well as the Junior Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria competition. Major carnivals in athletics, cross country and swimming are held in both competitions, along with fun sports carnivals hosted throughout the year.

Saturday Sport

Saturday sport is compulsory for all students in Years 7 – 12, with boys competing in the Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria (AGSV) competition and girls in the combined AGSV / Associated Public Schools (APS) competition in both Summer and Winter sports which are generally played at our beautiful playing fields in Keysborough and in our purpose-built Sports Centre.

Our extensive range of sports on offer include aerobics, AFL, AFLW, athletics, badminton, basketball, body balance, cricket, cross country, equestrian, golf, hockey, netball, sailing, snow sports, soccer, surfing, surf lifesaving, swimming, table tennis, tennis, touch football, volleyball and water polo.
