The Mentone Grammar Scholarship Program recognises outstanding achievement.

We are delighted to offer a small number of Academic, General Excellence and Performing Arts (Music) Scholarships to highly talented young people entering Year 10 in 2024.

Students will have the opportunity to join our happy, healthy and high achieving environment.

Due to unprecedented demand for places in our School we are not in a position to offer Scholarships for entry in 2023/24/25.

Our 2024 Scholarship Program is now closed (5:00pm on Friday 27 January 2023).

Scholarship Applications and Eligibility

Academic, General Excellence, and Performing Arts (Music) Scholarships for entry into Year 10 2024, are only open to external local students who must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident. Current or enrolled Mentone Grammar students are not eligible to apply.

  • 2024 Edutest Scholarship Examination: Saturday 4 February 2023
  • Application Fee: $120 per application

2024 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Our 2024 Scholarship Program is now closed.

Students who receive a Scholarship in Year 10 are expected to remain at Mentone Grammar until the end of Year 12. Scholarship recipients must demonstrate continued commitment to their educational priorities, progress suitably and display a strong Learner Profile.

Students on scholarships who leave prior to the completion of Year 12 will be required to refund the amount of fee remission provided by Mentone Grammar (excluding exceptional circumstances).

All students are expected to adhere to the Mentone Grammar Vision and Values namely: Respect, Caring, Resilience, Service, Discipline, Endeavour and Integrity.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited, together with their families, for an interview with the Principal or his delegate. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of portfolio review, Edutest results, audition (if applicable) and interview. Applicants who are not shortlisted for an interview or audition will be notified by email.

The number of Scholarships awarded to extremely high performing students in any given year and the percentage of tuition fee remission is at the discretion of the Principal. The Scholarships on offer cover a portion of Tuition Fees only. All scholarships are confidential.

Scholarship applicants will need to provide an electronic portfolio (details below) outlining key achievements for consideration. This must be received by the School prior to the closing deadline. No late applications will be accepted.

When applications open in October each year, you can apply online and pay the non-refundable fee of $120 by the application closing date.

  • NOTE: Applicants who apply for both an Academic or General Excellence Scholarship AND a Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship will be required to complete two separate online applications and pay associated fees for each application.

Academic Scholarship candidates must be high achieving students recognised as performing in the top 10% on a national level, for example NAPLAN and ACER test results.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited, together with their families, for an interview with the Principal or his delegate. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of portfolio review and interview.

Scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the Principal. Applicants who are not shortlisted for an interview will be notified by email.

Academic Scholarships are tenable until the student has completed Year 12 and offer part remission of the School's tuition fees. Additional charges such as a non-refundable enrolment registration fee and new student acceptance fee are still payable.

Academic Scholarship Portfolio

All applicants are asked to provide an electronic Scholarship Portfolio. The portfolio should be emailed to [email protected] prior to 5pm Friday 27 January 2023. No late applications will be accepted.

Please include the following documents:

  • Cover letter with a statement written by the student, explaining why they would like to be considered for the Scholarship and how they believe attending Mentone Grammar would impact his/her future and what they would bring to Mentone Grammar;
  • Mentone Grammar Scholarship Portfolio Cover Sheet with applicant and parent/guardian details.
  • Copies of two most recent school reports (Semester 1 and 2 reports);
  • Copy of NAPLAN results (Year 7 2021);
  • reference from their current Principal / Head of Campus attesting to their high-level performance, attitude and application;
  • Evidence of high level of leadership experience / capability;
  • Copy of birth certificate (applicants must be Australian Citizens or Residents);
  • Copies of any other achievements, personal references, recommendations.

Candidates for General Excellence Scholarships must be students who represents a sport on offer at Mentone Grammar at a State or National level (or equivalent for their sport). Applicants should, in their portfolio, show evidence of a high level of leadership achievement.

Sports on offer at Mentone Grammar: Aerobics, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Football, Hockey, Netball, Sailing, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Touch Football and Volleyball.

Applicants should be students recognised as performing in the top 15% on a national level, for example, NAPLAN and ACER test results.

The General Excellence Scholarships are tenable until the student has completed Year 12 and offer part remission of the School's tuition fees. Additional charges such as a non-refundable enrolment registration fee and new student acceptance fee are still payable.

Students will be required to represent the School in their chosen sport, must demonstrate continued commitment to their educational priorities and progress suitably well with good effort ratings, as well as contribute positively to the broader School Community. Students will also be required to mentor other students in their chosen sport.

General Excellence Scholarship Portfolio

All applicants are asked to provide an electronic Scholarship Portfolio. The portfolio should be e-mailed to [email protected] prior to 5pm Friday 27 January 2023. No late applications will be accepted.

Please include the following documents:

  • Cover letter with a statement written by the student, explaining why they would like to be considered for the Scholarship and how they believe attending Mentone Grammar would impact his/her future and what they would bring to Mentone Grammar.
  • Mentone Grammar Scholarship Portfolio Cover Sheet with applicant and parent/guardian details.
  • Copies of two most recent school reports (Semester 1 and 2 reports);
  • Copy of NAPLAN results (Year 7 2021);
  • Evidence of State or National representation (or equivalent for their sport) in a sport on offer at Mentone Grammar;
  • reference from a coach who can attest to high-level performance, attitude and application;
  • Evidence of high level of leadership experience / capability;
  • Copy of birth certificate (applicants must be Australian Citizens or Residents);
  • Copies of any other achievements, personal references, recommendations.

Candidates for Performing Arts Scholarships must be high achieving students who have been recognised as having outstanding creative endeavour, skill, and leadership qualities. Applicants should be students who are achieving well above average in Music.

Students applying for a Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship must be studying at least one instrument at the following minimum AMEB Grade level or equivalent:

Year 10 2024: Achieved 5th Grade in AMEB or equivalent

Evidence of this should be clearly outlined in the portfolio. Performing Arts candidates in the category of Music may be invited to a private audition. Application for a Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship does not automatically guarantee qualifying for an audition. The audition and interview panel will complete an assessment and forward their recommendations to the Principal.

The Performing Arts (Music) Scholarships are tenable until the student has completed Year 12 and offer part remission of the School's tuition fees. Additional charges such as a non-refundable enrolment registration fee and new student acceptance fee are still payable.

Students awarded a Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship are expected to pursue their chosen instrument(s) from commencement through to VCE level at Mentone Grammar. From time to time, the Head of Performing Arts may call upon Scholarship students to take part in additional ensembles, where needed and students must be willing to assist and participate in other ensembles and productions.

Students will be required to represent the School in their chosen Musical form and must demonstrate continued commitment to their educational priorities and progress suitably well with good effort ratings, as well as contribute positively to the broader School Community. Students will also be required to mentor other students in Music.

In addition to the above conditions, Performing Arts Scholarship (Music) students are required to adhere to the following conditions:

  • A commitment to perform in Mentone Grammar ensembles and/or choirs is an essential condition of holding a Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship (a minimum of two school concerts and one solo performance each school year).
  • Participate in at least two school ensembles. Learn at least one instrument formally (with an instrumental tutor).
  • Complete grade performance examinations. Study Music as an elective from Year 10 through to VCE at Mentone Grammar.

Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship Portfolio

All applicants are asked to provide an electronic Scholarship Portfolio. The portfolio should be e-mailed to [email protected] prior to 5pm Friday 27 January, 2023. No late applications will be accepted.

Please include the following documents:

  • Cover letter with a statement written by the student, explaining why they would like to be considered for the Scholarship and how they believe attending Mentone Grammar would impact his/her future and what they would bring to Mentone Grammar;
  • Mentone Grammar Scholarship Portfolio Cover Sheet with applicant and parent/guardian details.
  • Copies of two most recent school reports (Semester 1 and 2 reports);
  • Copy of NAPLAN results (Year 7 2021);
  • Evidence of their high-level skill in music 5th grade in AMEB;
  • References from people who can attest to high-level performance, attitude and application;
  • Evidence of high level of leadership experience / capability;
  • Copy of birth certificate (applicants must be Australian Citizens or Residents);
  • Copies of any other achievements, personal references, recommendations;
  • Performing Arts Scholarship Applicants (Music) please must include creativity achievements such as awardscompetitionscompositions, examination sheets and history of achievements including solo and/or ensemble performancesprofessional worktoursnotable performances.

Application for a Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship does not automatically guarantee qualifying for an audition. An email will be sent to shortlisted candidates advising of the details and time of the audition once applications have closed. Applicants who are not shortlisted for an audition or interview will be notified by email.

For audition students will be required to:

  • Perform two contrasting pieces (accompaniment is welcome and encouraged, no CDs)
  • Undertake sight reading and aural tests. Technical work may also be requested.

Scholarships FAQs

There is non-refundable application fee of $120 per Scholarship application.

When applications open in October each year, you can apply online and pay the non-refundable fee by the application closing date.

  • Academic and General Excellence Scholarship candidates register online and pay fee.
  • Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship candidates register online and pay fee.
  • Applicants who apply for both an Academic or General Excellence Scholarship AND a Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship will be required to complete two separate online applications and associated fees for each application.

If a scholarship is offered and you wish to accept it, standard enrolment charges will continue to apply, such as a non-refundable enrolment registration fee and a new student acceptance fee. Please note, there is no obligation to accept a Scholarship if it is offered.

The year levels offered, and number of Scholarships awarded each year for each category is at the Principal’s discretion and is dependent upon the availability of places.

The 2023 Scholarship program is now closed. For 2024, Mentone Grammar is offering a small number of Academic, General Excellence and Performing Arts (Music) Scholarships for entry into Year 10 only. See detailed information above about each Scholarship type.

Due to unprecedented demand for places in our School we are not in a position to offer Scholarships at other year levels for entry in 2024.

Candidates applying for a Scholarship will need to provide a portfolio outlining the candidate’s achievements for consideration in conjunction with testing results and/or audition.

Application for a Scholarship does not automatically guarantee qualifying for an interview or audition (if applicable). Shortlisted candidates only will be asked to attend an interview.

Application for a Performing Arts (Music) Scholarship does not automatically guarantee qualifying for an audition. An email will be sent to shortlisted candidates advising of the details and time of the audition once applications have closed.

Applicants who are not shortlisted for an audition or interview will be notified by email.

Please note: In accordance with COVID-19 restrictions the interview/audition may be postponed or held off-site.

If students on scholarships leave prior to the completion of Year 12 or Mentone Grammar terminates the scholarship for a valid reason, the parents will be required to pay the amount of fee remission provided during the course of the scholarship. Further, parents will be required to sign a scholarship agreement that sets out the terms and conditions upon which the scholarship will be granted. All scholarships are confidential.

Usually scholarships are issued through to the end of Year 12. However, scholarships are the subject of annual review. Students on scholarship who are not making a significant contribution to the life of the School or who are not trying hard enough may have their scholarship revoked

The results of the Scholarship Examination will remain the property of the School and will not be released to families.

The 2023 Scholarship Program Edutest Examination will take place on Saturday 5 February, 2021. All Academic and General Excellence candidates must sit the EduTest on this date. No alternative dates are offered.
