Mentone Grammar

Jess Richards

Head of Eblana

B Ed, B (Teach)

It’s seeing those lightbulb moments students have, as well as their excitement to share stories that Jess loves most about teaching. Once completing a Bachelor of Teaching, Jess relocated to South Auckland (New Zealand) where she taught a composite class of Year 4, 5 and 6 students. With 38 children in her class and no specialist teachers she taught all subjects from English to Music, and even Swimming.

When returning to Australia Jess completed her Bachelor of Education majoring in Art. She then taught at Bentleigh West primary school, holding a number of leadership positions as well as running the student leadership program.

Jess joined Mentone Grammar in 2010 and after one year of teaching, took on the role of Curriculum Coordinator. Since then she has had a large input into the development of Formative Assessment at Mentone Grammar as well as completing the Personalised Professional Coaching Program with Monash University.

Learning about differentiations in teaching that assist in targeting how an individual child learns best is a key interest of Jess’. Outside of teaching Jess enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and living by the beach.
